A 27-year-old woman died hours after undergoing surgery liposuction in a clinic in Santo Domingo Oeste, in the Dominican Republic. The authorities identified Emanuel Hernández, a hairdresser who, according to the Ministry of Public Health, was allegedly responsible for the procedure. He does not have a medical degree or authorization to perform surgeriesthe newspaper reported Hoy.
The victim, Rebeca Brizard, mother of three childrenpresented complications shortly after the intervention. According to the testimony of her relatives, the nursing staff tried to communicate on several occasions with the person who performed the surgery, but he would have delayed returning while the patient’s condition worsened, reports RT.
The death certificate states that Brizard died of respiratory failure and pulmonary edema. His relatives reported that the medical center did not have oxygen or other basic equipment to deal with an emergency during recovery.
Fake doctor
The Ministry of Public Health reported that Hernández had previously worked alongside a licensed plastic surgeon, but was dismissed for exceeding his duties. The authorities are investigating the case as a possible illegal practice of medicine and local media report that the suspect remains at large, it indicates. RT.

The clinic where the intervention was performed is also investigated for alleged irregularities. According to health authorities, the establishment operated without the corresponding authorization from the Ministry of Public Health and was closed after learning of the case.
In addition, the director of Habilitation of the Ministry of Public Health, Juan Gerardo Mesa, revealed that at least two other cosmetic surgeries had already been performed in that same center before Brizard’s death. Clinic owner was interviewed by authorities as part of investigation, says RT.
The young woman’s family filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office and demands that the criminal responsibilities of both the alleged perpetrator of the surgery and those responsible for the establishment be determined, while the investigation continues to clarify the circumstances of the death.
