Albert Einstein, after leaving Germany: «The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for being»

Upon settling in New Jersey, United States, Albert Einstein He developed the last stage of his scientific career, which was not short. Likewise, behind him were the theory of relativity and the law of the photoelectric effectthe latter being the one for which he won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921.

He went down in history as one of the most important scientists of the 20th century. This was due to, among other things, his explanation of the quantum theory of light. Over time, it made possible the existence of, for example, laser technology and TV screens.

But his reflections also left a deep mark. Among the many ways to define the physicist, it can be said that he was a pacifist and a fervent defender of curiosity. Below is the complete sentence in which called not to conform to what is establishedand which was delivered in a context far removed from the dangers of Nazism.

Albert Einstein’s phrase about the importance of questioning

The important thing is not to stop questioning. «Curiosity has its own reason for being,» said the famous scientist. This was stated by William Miller, editor of the magazine Lifein its publication of May 2, 1955, the year of Einstein’s death.

And the reflection continues: “It is inevitable to marvel when contemplating the mysteries of eternityof life, of the amazing structure of reality. It is enough to try to understand a little of this mystery every day.”

Those words were given on American soil. It happens that the Nobel Prize —which he obtained for a theory that he published at no less than 26 years old— moved to the USA in 1933, where he lived until his death.

He left his native country in the middle of a growing antisemitism in Germany from that time. He did it accompanied by his cousin Elsa Lowenthal. She had become his second wife more than a decade ago, after Einstein separated from the Serbian woman. Mileva Maric. Woman who, by the way, had a great importance in the scientist’s conclusions.

Einstein died on April 18, 1955 in Princeton.in the state of New Jersey. It happened at the age of 76 due to heart failure.

Along with his scientific theories—with which overturned conventional notions about the nature of light—, left these and many other reflections on what it means to be human.

Curiosity about knowledge

As mentioned, curiosity was something that characterized the messy hair thinker. Together with the human beings who surrounded him—like the Serbian mathematician named—and his curious feelings, his research had its engine running.

For him there was no better way to live life than through curiosity, constant restlessness and the need to experiment in the unknown. In fact, the German genius even stated that «curiosity is more important than knowledge”.

The thing is knowledge is limitedwhile “imagination surrounds the world.” Curiosity leads to imagination and consequently to the arrival of new ideas.

In this way, abstract concepts can be visualized and theories built that, of course, will then have to be verified through experiments.
