ARGENTINA OUT! FROM WHO: THE LIBERTARIAN CABINET

The decision of the national government that Argentina is no longer a member of the WHO generated warnings from the health organization regarding the growth of hantavirus cases.

In February 2025, the national government published a decree where it established that »President Javier Milei has made the decision to withdraw the Argentine Republic from the World Health Organization (OMS)» under the argument that the organism »It is dedicated to international politics and seeks to impose itself above the member countries».

He also accused the WHO of having taken health measures »without scientific support» during the COVID pandemic.

However, the cabinets that cover crucial areas for the country’s health, science and development are made up of political representatives whose records are, at least, scandalous

To begin with, the Minister of Health Mario Lugones faces a political trial due to the tragedy of contaminated fentanyl, which took the lives of more than 100 peopleand also for not appearing to testify regarding the bribery scandal in ANDIS (National Disability Agency), among others.

On the other hand, the Commission of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation has Lorena Villaverde as Secretary, arrested in Florida on July 15, 2002 by cocaine trafficking. He does not have completed studies.1

It is also found Lilia Lemoine of Vocal, whose only training consisted of effects makeup and cosplay. She was denounced for promoting a treatment to «lighten the color of the eyes» that generated serious problems in the vision of several patients2and recently they also denounced her for spread erotic photos with your ex.3

The director of the WHO declared in a press conference that Argentina and the United States »They will reconsider their decisions because they can see how important universality is for health securitysince viruses do not care about our politics, nor our borders, nor all the excuses we may have”.4

In response, the national government ratified its decision not to belong to the WHOensuring that »Argentina has the health, technical and political capacity to protect the health of the population.”.5
