At only 13 years old, he played Piazzolla with the Peking Symphony

Marcos Carreras performed as a soloist with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra and performed a piece by Astor Piazzolla in a historical complex with more than 500 years of imperial history.

The young talent of the City of Buenos Aires does not stop crossing borders. Marcos Carreras, a prodigy violinist who was only 13 years old and originally from the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Almagro, returned to the country after a historic milestone: performing as a soloist with the prestigious Beijing Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Xia Xiaotang..

The setting for the concert was the imposing Concert Hall of the Forbidden City, the emblematic palace complex that functioned as the center of Chinese imperial power for almost half a millennium.. In this context, and during the 3rd Children’s Day Special Concert “La Esperanza del Futuro”, the Argentine musician dazzled the audience with an exquisite performance of “Decarísimo”, the instrumental work of the great Astor Piazzolla. In addition to the ovation, his participation earned him winning the international competition “The Hope of the Future 2026”.

Now that I think about it, I can’t believe I played with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra. I take it in, because it’s incredible. You are there, it’s a flashback and that’s it”the young man expressed excitedly after his return to Buenos Aires.

A career that defies age

Despite his young age, Marcos’ career – who has absolute pitch – is full of great stages. He debuted as a soloist at the Teatro Colón at the age of 10 and has already passed through key cultural spaces such as the San Martín Cultural Center, the Palacio Libertad, the Usina del Arte, the 25 de Mayo Theater and the studios of Radio Nacional Clásica..

The son of violinists, he learned to play before reading; the instrument was always part of his daily game. He initially trained at the Suzuki Center in Buenos Aires with maestro Eduardo Ludueña and currently continues to perfect himself under the tutelage of the renowned violinist and pedagogue Rafael Gíntoli.. His distinctions include the appointment as “Artist of High Dedication” by the Ministry of Education of the City of Buenos Aires and a scholarship from the “Quarry of Talents” program of the Corporación América Foundation..

In order to fulfill his national and international tours and commitments, Marcos is studying his first year of high school at the Juan Pedro Esnaola School, an institution that adapted the school scheme to suit his musical career..

Passion for football, order and big dreams

Outside of scores and large-scale stages, the young artist’s daily life maintains the essence of any boy his age, thanks to the accompaniment of his parents. Marcos declares himself an absolute fan of Ferrocarril Oeste and defines himself as a “refutbolero.” In his free time, he enjoys meeting his friends and claims to be organized in his own way: «I consider that within disorder there is always order. I can have everything scattered, but I know where everything is».

Also recently arrived from Germany—where he won the Thomastik Sound Award at the International Anton Rubinstein—the young prodigy looks forward without burning through stages, but with clear goals. “My dream is to go on an international tour and play in the most important places in Europe, like France, Spain and England”he concludes.
