Bulgaria defeated Luxembourg 2-0 away from home to secure their first victory in the UEFA Nations League, in Group C/4, BTA reports.
The Bulgarian side looked markedly different from the team that played in Plovdiv ten days earlier, when Luxembourg secured a historic first-ever victory. Nine new starters and a new head coach, Atanas Ribarski, took to the pitch, with only goalkeeper Daniel Naumov and Ilia Gruev retaining their places in the starting eleven.
Bulgaria produced a strong first-half performance, scoring two fine goals. In the 19th minute, Kristian Balov opened the scoring with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area. In the 34th minute, following a pass from Georgi Rusev, Atanas Iliev doubled Bulgaria’s lead with a superb volley.
In the second half, Daniel Naumov made several excellent saves to preserve Bulgaria’s advantage and secure the 2-0 victory.
