The Commune will move forward with sanctions after two weeks of complaints about delays and reduced frequencies that are not normalized.
The transportation crisis in La Plata adds a new chapter. The General Directorate of Municipal Transit and Transportation confirmed that Justice will move forward with fines against bus companies for the poor service recorded during the last 14 days.
The measure is based on the information collected by the communal area, with the support of the Citizen Ombudsman’s Office of La Plata, headed by Luciana Bártoli. From that organization they detailed that the decision was made based on the large number of complaints from users affected by delays and cuts in frequencies.
Bártoli explained that there was an expectation of improvement for this week, after the companies committed to reducing service by 20% and not 50%. However, the situation did not show any changes. “We find that it is more or less the same,” he warned, based on the complaints received.
Faced with this scenario, the Ombudsman’s Office once again coordinated with the municipal Transportation area to channel the complaints and move forward with concrete sanctions. The Executive requested a detail of the most affected lines to identify the companies that continue to fail to comply and submit this data to Justice.
Key demands to move forward with sanctions
The Ombudsman’s Office stressed that user participation is essential to sustain complaints and strengthen reports that allow fines to be applied.
In that sense, they called on residents to report problems related to routes, delays and lack of units. This information will be used to expand the presentations before the competent judicial bodies and move forward with sanctions against the responsible companies.
The transportation conflict continues to generate unrest in the city, with a direct impact on the daily routine of thousands of people from La Plata who depend on the service to get around.
