The fourth ordinary session left intense debates about the increase in taxi fares and the use of public space. Projects linked to health and neighborhood demands were also discussed.
He Deliberative Council of La Plata lived a day marked by tension and crossing between blocks during the fourth ordinary session of the year. With a broad agenda, the focus was on complaints from the taxi sector, Executive initiatives and proposals on the use of public space.
At the beginning, the councilors held a minute of silence in tribute to Luis Brandoni, highlighting his artistic career and his contribution to national culture.
Then, the body moved forward with files sent by the Executive Department, including an agreement with Banco Provincia to install ATMs in Los Hornos, in addition to administrative agreements and subsidies.
Tension over the increase in taxis
One of the most critical moments occurred due to the demand for a tariff update in the sector. From La Libertad Avanza, Nicolás Morzone questioned municipal policy and called for progress in the legalization of platforms like Uber.
From the ruling party, Pablo Elías maintained that the central problem is the loss of purchasing power and stressed that “people cannot pay for a trip.” Along the same lines, Julio Alak was mentioned in the debate as part of the local management scenario.
For his part, Juan Manuel Granillo Fernández pointed out that the issue will be discussed in committee, while Florencia Barcia questioned the lack of dialogue with the sector and Romina Santana raised doubts about the working conditions of the drivers.
Pedestrians and use of public space
Another focus of discussion was the project to pedestrianize streets at specific times, promoted by Gastón Álvarez. The initiative proposes creating commercial corridors between 5 and 8 p.m. to encourage consumption.
However, objections arose from different blocks. Sectors of the Radical Civic Union warned of possible effects on commercial habits, while the ruling party called for a more in-depth analysis due to the lack of consensus among merchants.
Projects on health and coexistence
The session also included initiatives linked to daily life in the city. Among them, a project to prohibit smoking in access to hospitals and another aimed at promoting the responsible adoption of animals, with registration of adopters and subsequent monitoring.
With debates that combined structural problems and specific demands, the session once again reflected the local political dynamics in La Plata, crossed by tensions and an economic context that fully impacts the legislative agenda.
