A show that fuses traditional Argentine folklore with shades of modern and contemporary dance, telling the myth of SALAMANCA; It is a cave or hidden place in the mountains where, according to belief, the devil called «zupay» meets with witches and eager followers to give free rein to pacts with the underworld.
The origin of the myth comes from Spain, and took hold in the mother of cities Santiago del Estero. The aforementioned work, with a young and innovative proposal, provides the space for talented dancers who, with live music, transport the viewer to the world of «pacts for favors», after giving up their soul!
The challenging bet has in its framework the visibility of a myth that identifies the cultural heritage of Argentina, an area where music gave life to great composers, where tradition keeps alive the transfer of its roots, where the countryman adds his gastronomic ancestors and generates that cultural bridge that is so beautiful to cross!
According to sayings from time to time, it is stated that the Rioja witches arrive from Famatina to Sanagasta where the majority congregate and then travel to Salavina, Santiago del Estero. There is the national center of these practices, which give life to the SALAMANCA myth.
Participants in these festivities can go several days without sleep and without a hint of fatigue. Then they are benefited with some virtues such as the healing of their peers, extensive powers for playing instruments, great oratory skills, ease in singing, dancing, etc. Benefits that the devil grants them in exchange for their soul, which must be delivered in a contract signed in blood.
Sometimes it is the devil himself who leaves Salamanca to look for devotees. In those cases he takes the form of Mandinga, and appears as a gaucho dressed pompously, with silver decorations and ornaments.
Beautiful traditions that keep the Culture and Sovereignty of ARGENTINA alive. Among the thanks highlighted in the production, Martin Barriga is mentioned, who accompanied the flight of this dream.
The premiere is on August 8 at 9:00 p.m. at the Auditorium Theater in the city of Mar del Plata.
