Within the framework of the Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, the most important cruise fair in the world, the EMTURyC and the Ministry of Tourism of the Nation closed a historic agreement for the Seaventure expedition ship to arrive in Mar del Plata in October of this year. The milestone positions the city as a strategic point towards Antarctica and opens a new era for international tourism in the region.

A management that bears fruit in Miami
Mar del Plata participated for the first time in Seatrade Cruise Globalthe most relevant cruise fair on the planet. The central objective is consolidate Mar del Plata as a key operational port for the replacement of passengers on routes heading to Antarctica, taking advantage of its infrastructure and strategic location.

Seaventure: a boutique ship for 150 passengers
The main news is that the expedition cruise Seaventure —from the company 66 Expeditions— has already formally requested three dock reserves in the Port of Mar del Plata for the following dates:
- October 20, 2026
- March 2027
- October 2027
This confirmed arrival positions the local port on the map of high-end expedition tourism. The Seaventure stands out for being designed for only 150 passengers: it is a “boutique” boat specifically designed to navigate the polar regions and the South Atlanticoffering an intimate experience and maximum comfort.
Other ultra-luxury companies show interest
In addition to the confirmation of the Seaventure, authorities also maintained a key meeting with the firm Swan Hellenic Cruisesan ultra-luxury cruise company that expressed interest in calling in Mar del Plata to March 2027. This interest reinforces the city’s potential as a stopover destination for high-class vessels.
A new era for Mar del Plata tourism
Diego JuárezPresident of EMTURyC, explained the meaning of this achievement: “The possibility of offering boarding and disembarkation services for cruises in Mar del Plata opens a new opportunity for economic development, taking advantage of the local infrastructure and its proximity to other tourism generating centers”.
And he added: “Thanks to the management we carry out at Seatrade together with the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Sports of the Nation, we are preparing to receive one of the most sophisticated vessels in the sector in October, marking the beginning of a new era for international tourism in Mar del Plata”.

With this milestone, Mar del Plata not only prepares to receive its first luxury cruise ship, but also begins to build a new chapter in its tourist historypositioning itself as a strategic port of call for high-end expedition tourism and as a privileged gateway to Antarctica.
