One year since Cristina’s sentence: Peronism

On June 10, 2025, the Supreme Court made final the sentence of six years in prison and perpetual disqualification against Cristina Kirchner in the Roads case. A year later, all Peronism expresses its repudiation of Cristina’s conviction and ban and takes to the streets with the slogan «Cristina Free.»

Exactly one year ago, the Federal Oral Court No. 2 concluded the house arrest of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in her Buenos Aires apartment, after the Supreme Court rejected the defense’s appeals in the Roads case and the sentence of six years in prison and perpetual disqualification from holding public office became final. The resolution was unanimous: the three judges who signed the ruling were Horacio Rosatti, Carlos Rosenkrantz and Ricardo Lorenzetti. From that moment, San José 1111 became the center of gravity of Kirchnerism and the cause for its freedom, the main unifying force of a Peronism that otherwise would not find many points of agreement.

This Wednesday, the anniversary resulted in a series of coordinated political activities. At 4 p.m. there will be a rally in front of the Constitución home where the former president is under house arrest. In parallel, Peronist deputies and senators held a press conference in the Senate and presented a document critical of the judicial action addressed to the Supreme Court, in which they maintain that the former president’s situation constitutes a «political ban.»

On the other hand, since the morning, all Peronism once again expressed its repudiation of the conviction. Axel Kicillof published on his networks that it was «an enormous infamy for everyone to see» and described the judges as «sectors of the Judiciary as far away from Justice as they are close to royal power.» The mayor of La Plata, Julio Alak, also added his voice and questioned the ruling as he considered it illegitimate. Like Florencia Saintout, who published “a year of injustice for her, a year of injustice for the people” along with a video. While Nicolás Kreplak, Vanesa Siley, Mayra Mendoza and Jorge Ferraresi completed the map of Peronist voices that were expressed throughout the day.

The sentence remains the same as a year ago. What changed is the terrain on which the claim is built: it is no longer just judicial, it is electoral.
