The Buenos Aires theater circuit continues to witness the overwhelming phenomenon of «The tongue is a muscle, but language is a virus (Synthesis of a hypothesis about the antithesis of a thesis)». This project, which began its journey in 2022 with an excellent response from critics and the public, was definitively consolidated during 2023 as one of the great events of off Corrientes, selling out seats month after month. Today, going through its fifth successful season, it reaffirms its validity as one of the most intelligent, original and disruptive comedy proposals on the current billboard.
Language as a virus and humor as a bridge
The dramaturgy, written and performed individually by Diego Carrenofinds its unique genesis in the humorous and linguistic posts that the renowned actor and director Gabriel Wolf (mythical member of the theater group The Macocos) has been performing on the social network Facebook since 2014. To consolidate this stage project in its current version, Carreño called on Leandro Aita —his historic partner in the renowned comedy duo Delay Brothers— to assume general direction.
Unlike the duo’s previous works, characterized by a deployment of technological resources (as in Digital Mambo o Anonymous Digitals), in this case they have chosen to turn towards a absolute minimalism as a narrative and scenic resource.
The plot introduces us to E.an adult man who lives completely isolated from civilization on a property belonging to his wealthy family, located on the top of a hill. He has remained in this voluntary confinement for the last 24 years, immersed among ancient artifacts and dedicating his life to writing the thesis that will allow him to graduate as a Philologist or Man of Letters.
The central premise of his research attempts to confirm in a practical way the famous proposition that the writer William Burroughs launched in 1966: «Language is a virus». From this starting point, humor runs through the entire show, posing a unique methodological challenge: bringing elements of linguistics, literature and audiovisual genres to the theatrical action, using rhetorical resources such as paradox, metaphor, paronomasia and hesitation to approach such a premise.

The functions are performed Friday at 9:30 p.m. in The Chamber of the Muses (Mario Bravo 960, CABA). With a duration of 60 minutes, general tickets have a value of $28.000 and can be purchased directly at the theater box office or through the online platform of Theatrical Alternative.
