One year after the murder of Pedro Pablo Mieres, family, friends, co-workers and members of the university community will once again mobilize through the streets of La Plata to demand progress in the investigation and demand justice.
The call will take place on June 17 at the Exactas faculty, from where they will leave for the Criminal Court and will seek to keep in force the request for clarification of the case that shocked the city.
Mieres, 37 years old, worked as Secretary of Student Affairs of the Faculty of Exact Sciences of the National University of La Plata and also worked at the San Martín Hospital. He was found dead in his home in the Hipódromo neighborhood on June 17, 2025.
The organizers of the march pointed out that, despite the time that has passed, questions persist about the crime and maintain the need for the case to move forward until all responsibilities are determined. The mobilization will bring together relatives, students, teachers and neighbors who have supported the demand from the first day.
From those around Mieres, they stressed that the day will have as its axis keeping his memory alive and renewing the request for truth and justice, in a cause that continues to generate a deep commotion in different sectors of the La Plata community.
Let us remember that Pablo was a native of the province of Neuquen, with a degree in Molecular Biology and a Chemistry teacher at a secondary school. In addition, he was an academic reference for the Faculty of Exact Sciences of the UNLP, where he served as secretary of student affairs. On the other hand, he also carried out vaccination tasks at the San Martín Hospital, where he adopted a strong commitment to public health in times of pandemic.
In some interviews, his friends stated that he was a very sensitive and warm person, passionate about music, singing and musical instruments. In addition to being a fervent defender of the rights of LGBTQ+ people.
On June 17, 2025, he was found dead at his home in the Hipódromo neighborhood, with signs of strangulation. The witness, a friend of his, had approached the place since Pablo was not responding to his calls and he was the one who notified the police when he came across the terrible scene.
The case was in charge of the Departmental Investigation Delegation (DDI), together with the UFI in charge of Gonzalo Petit Bosnic. Suspicions pointed to the victim’s surroundings, since no signs were found that the door had been forced.
Nicolás Damián Arévalo as the main suspect and two other people were charged with the crime.
The lawyers for Pablo’s family pointed out that the case was a hate crime, linked to their gender identity, due to the degree of violence exercised at the time it was committed.
