Two dead when a small plane crashes on a landing strip in the Dominican Republic

The pilot and co-pilot of a small plane died this Sunday when crash into the landing strip in the Dominican Republic when they were carrying out a return maneuver, local authorities indicated.

The accident occurred at a private international commercial airport that serves the resort city of La Romana.

According to preliminary reports, the aircraft declared an emergency when it was about 16 nautical miles southwest of La Romana and He rushed when returning to La Romana International Airport.

The jet had arrived from Puerto Rico and, after completing refueling, it took off towards the city of Austin, in the state of Texas, United States.

The Aviation Accident Investigation Commission (CIAA) is investigating what happened.

For his part, deputy Eugenio Cedeño indicated that firefighters, personnel from the General Directorate of Immigration, Customs and airport employees were at the place where the aircraft crashed trying to keep the situation under control.
