From Miami, Dr. Eduardo Pérez Guerrero shared a message full of emotion after learning of the death of maestro Jorge Calandrelli, one of the most influential figures in contemporary music internationally.
In his words, he recalled with deep affection how his bond with Calandrelli began, whom he defined not only as a brilliant artist, but also as a person of enormous human warmth.

«From the first meeting I was surprised by his simplicity, his closeness and his extraordinary talent. Jorge had that unique ability to stand out without ever losing his humility,» he said.
Pérez Guerrero also recalled a key moment in his career: it was Calandrelli himself who introduced him to the renowned trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. That meeting marked the beginning of a very significant artistic stage.
As a result of that connection, the project “Tango como yo te corazón” arose, in which Sandoval, Dany Vilá, the Teatro Colón Symphony Orchestra and prominent voices such as Julia Zenko, María Graña, Valeria Lynch, Patricia Sosa, Fernando Soler, Guillermo Fernández and Raúl Lavié participated. The work achieved great recognition and won a Grammy Award in 2011.
«It was a unique experience. Bringing together so much talent under the direction of Jorge and Arturo was truly unforgettable,» he highlighted.
Another project that he remembered with pride was the album “Gardel Piazzolla by Jorge Calandrelli”, a production of high artistic level that received Grammy nominations on two consecutive occasions.
«Participating in that album was a huge honor. Jorge had a special sensitivity to transform each work into something extraordinary,» he said.
Calandrelli’s departure also generated a reaction from important figures in world music. Among them, Arturo Sandoval, who said goodbye to him with a deeply emotional message, highlighting both his professional excellence and his human quality.
Sandoval defined him as an integral musician and an undisputed reference, capable of bringing elegance and emotion to each project. Likewise, he recalled shared experiences such as the album “Eternamente Manzanero”, a tribute to the great Armando Manzanero, in which talent, respect and love for music came together.
For Pérez Guerrero, that message perfectly summarizes who Jorge Calandrelli was.
«When an artist of Arturo’s stature speaks like this, it is clear the immense legacy that Jorge leaves behind. He was not only a great musician, but someone who deeply affected those of us who worked with him.»
Finally, he underlined the magnitude of the loss for the artistic world.
«He was a true reference of our time. His work and his way of understanding music make him an unrepeatable artist.»
As a farewell, he left an intimate and heartfelt message:
«Dear Jorge, I hope you are at peace. Thank you for your music, for your generosity and for everything you shared. Your legacy will last and your memory will continue to live on in all of us.»
