The national government made a million-dollar cut official in different areas of the State. The National University of La Plata will lose more than $1,000 million allocated to works.
In anticipation of a new Federal University Marchthe Government of Javier Milei confirmed an important budget adjustment that will fully impact universities, education and public health. The measure was published in the Official Gazette and bears the signatures of the Chief of Staff, Manuel Adorni, and the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo.
The decision contemplates a cut of close to 2.5 trillion pesos, equivalent to 1.6% of the national Budget, and is part of the fiscal balance policy promoted by the Executive within the framework of the agreement with the IMF.
One of the main cuts is concentrated in subsidies and financial assistance, with a reduction of more than $1.47 trillion.
The UNLP will lose funds for works and infrastructure
In The Silverthe impact hits especially the National University of La Platawhich will suffer a reduction of $1,043 million in capital transfers destined for infrastructure and execution of works.
The reduction is part of a total adjustment of $5,303 million that will reach 13 national universities and has already sparked concern within the academic community.
According to university sources, the measure could affect projects currently underway, including works linked to the faculties of Journalism, Agriculture and Social Work, considered strategic for the building growth of the UNLP.
From different academic sectors they described the announcement as a “provocative” measure, having been made official a few hours before the national mobilization in defense of university financing.
Cuts in education and social programs
The adjustment will also fully affect the Ministry of Education, where the budget will be reduced by more than $78.7 billion.
Among the most affected programs is National Literacy Planwhich will suffer a reduction of more than $35,000 million. The measure will directly impact the transfers that the provinces receive for educational policies.
In addition, there will be cuts in school infrastructure, equipment, socio-educational programs and student scholarships.
Added to this is the elimination of the Teacher Salary Compensation Fund, a mechanism used to balance salary differences between jurisdictions and that could deepen the conflict with the education sector.
Public health will also suffer cuts
The adjustment ordered by the national government will also affect the area of Public healthwhere a reduction of more than $63,000 million will be applied.
Among the affected items are programs for access to medicines, cancer treatments, disease prevention and policies linked to HIV, hepatitis and sexual health.
Likewise, organizations such as Incucai and the Malbrán Institute will also suffer budget cuts during 2026.
Meanwhile, the Executive did expand items intended for the payment of pension judgments, voluntary withdrawals in ANSES and funds for the Council of the Judiciary and the Supreme Court.
