Within the framework of WTM Latin America 2026, Russell Banfield, representative of the Barbados Tourism Office for the region, spoke with our special envoy Pablo Casabona and revealed the attractions that make this Caribbean island a unique destination. “We want to communicate that Barbados has much more than just the beaches«, he stated, highlighting a cultural and gastronomic heritage that positions it as a regional reference.

The birthplace of rum and culinary capital of the Caribbean
Banfield was forceful when describing the identity of the island: “We are the cradle of rum”. It is home to the oldest brand of rum in the world, a liquid treasure that attracts travelers interested in local history and traditions. Besides, Barbados is considered the culinary capital of the Caribbeanwith a diverse gastronomic offer that fuses native flavors with international influences.
A paradise for golf lovers
Another pillar of the promotion is golf. “We are also the golf capital of the Caribbean region«said Banfield, who conducted the interview dressed for the occasion in a setting that simulated a golf course. The island has seven golf courses in just 430 km² of surface, an impressive density that makes it an ideal destination for fans of this sport.
How long does it take to get to know Barbados?
“We like to say that to get to know Barbados well, without rushing, you can do it in between 7 and 10 days«explained the representative. This period allows you to enjoy the beaches, golf courses, the rum route and the gastronomic offer without haste, in addition to exploring the landscapes and local culture.
The best connectivity in history with Latin America
One of the most relevant announcements from the interview was the improvement in air connectivity. Copa Airlines currently operates five flights per week connecting Barbados with the Latin American region (every day except Sunday and Tuesday). But the big news is that between July 27 and September 14, 2026the airline will fly to the island every daymaking access even easier during the peak summer season in the northern hemisphere.
“Barbados has never been better connected to the Latin American region. It is a good time to learn about the authentic Caribbean experience,” Banfield concluded.
