Enrique Thompson Revirado Project: the avant-garde of Jazz-Tango between two continents

Argentine saxophonist and composer Enrique Thompson (based between the Canary Islands, Vienna and Berlin) redefines the intersection between the Río de la Plata tradition and contemporary jazz improvisation with original compositions on the European scene.

In a musical panorama where the borders are increasingly blurred, the Overturned Project by Enrique Thompson emerges as an essential sound bridge between Buenos Aires and Europe. Based in Spain, Austria and Germany, the Argentine saxophonist and composer has achieved what few others have achieved: stripping tango of its clichés to reconstruct it from the freedom of modern jazz and academic precision.

Although the bandoneon is usually the undisputed protagonist of the genre, Thompson has positioned the saxophone as a lyrical and powerful narrator within citizen music. His style is characterized by impeccable technique and deep sensitivity, capable of evoking the melancholy of the port of Buenos Aires and the vibrant energy of the jazz clubs of Berlin or Vienna.

Thompson, who founded Revirado Project In 2014, he has dedicated years to fusing jazz together with tango and Argentine folk music, exploring new frontiers through spontaneous creation and mixing with various world music. With a career marked by innovation, the group has produced original music and reinterpretations of classics ranging from jazz to classical music and electronic music, which has allowed them to build an unmistakable artistic identity.

Recently, he was invited to participate in a concert broadcast from Lugano (Switzerland) by RSI (Swiss National Radio) and which will be part of an album that will be released this year.

At the moment, Enrique Thompson He is presenting his most recent album material and preparing tours that will take him to the main jazz stages in Europe and South America during the next season.

The DNA of the avant-garde: about Enrique Thompson

Enrique began playing the saxophone at the age of 10 and by the time he was 12, he was already immersed in classical training at the conservatory.

However, his passion led him towards jazz and improvisation, propelling him on a broader musical journey. He honed his saxophone and improvisation technique under the guidance of noted jazz teachers and legends such as Bob Mintzer, Michael Brecker and Paquito D’Rivera.

In 2010 he moved to Vienna, Austria, where he spent his first years in Europe integrating into the European music scene. Since then, he has recorded and released 10 albums, always infusing his Argentine roots into his work, which distinguishes his approach to jazz from other styles.

In 2012 he co-founded Traspié (electro-tango) and Revirado Project (jazz/tango fusion), mixing Argentine traditions with modern composition and improvisation. He has also collaborated on countless projects with musicians from around the world.

To support independent artists, he co-founded Artruism Records and the cultural association Artruism Verein.

In 2017 Enrique moved to Berlin, but after a year, an invitation took him to the Canary Islands, where he has lived and worked since 2019, while he continues to perform throughout Europe.
