A mega police operation carried out in the area of 185 and 80 set off alarms for an alleged case of human trafficking for labor exploitation and child labor. The procedure was carried out by the Superintendency of Investigations of Complex Crimes and Organized Crime, and made it possible to detect a scenario of extreme social vulnerability.
During the raid, the officers found nearly 100 people living in precarious conditions within different housing complexes. The case fell under the orbit of UFI No. 15, headed by prosecutor Cecilia Corfield, which investigates possible crimes linked to labor exploitation and child labor.
One of the episodes that generated the most concern was the discovery of a girl with a motor disability who lived in a house in poor condition and moved around in a wheelchair. Additionally, on another farm they found an older man with apparent disabilities, whose house was padlocked from the outside.
After the judicial intervention, the Local Service for Children and Adolescents and the Rescue and Support Program for Victims of Trafficking participated, assisting the people found at the scene.
The investigators also detected possible situations of labor exploitation, the presence of minors working and irregular salaries. In the middle of the operation, three men aged 54, 26 and 22 tried to hinder police action and refused to hand over their cell phones.
For this reason, prosecutor Gonzalo Bosnic, head of UFI No. 3 of La Plata, ordered the initiation of proceedings for “cover-up and resistance to authority” and requested the arrest of the suspects.
In parallel, prosecutor Corfield charged four people with crimes linked to labor exploitation and child labor, within the framework of article 148 bis of the Penal Code.
