The Municipality of La Plata reported that the destruction caused during the protest held this Friday in front of the Municipal Palace will demand an investment of $43.580.000 to repair the damage. The incidents occurred during a demonstration led by militants of the Movement of Excluded Workers (MTE), in rejection of the new bidding system for urban maintenance services led by Julio Alak.

As detailed by the local Executive, the repairs will include painting, masonry, carpentry, glass replacement and stained glass restoration, in addition to various interventions on doors and entrances to the historic building.
What should the Municipality repair?
Among the planned tasks are the exterior painting of arches and walls of the main entrance, the replacement of broken glass on the ground floor and first floor, the repair of the entrance blindex and the wooden gates, in addition to the replacement of damaged moldings, casements and stained glass, especially in the Golden Room.
Masonry work will also be carried out to repair ceilings, door handles and other sectors affected during the incidents.
Criminal complaint and 22 detainees
After the events, the Municipality filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor’s office on duty of the La Plata Judicial Department and constituted itself as a private victim for the crimes of aggravated damage, injuries and attack on authority.
The Executive maintained that the protest was linked to the MTE’s rejection of the decision to end direct contracting to move towards a public bidding system for cleaning, sweeping and urban maintenance services.
The riots occurred while an event for the International Day for the Prevention of Addictions was taking place in the Golden Hall, with the participation of more than 300 neighbors, representatives of institutions and educational establishments. Due to the violence outside, attendees had to remain inside the building until the situation could be controlled.
According to the Municipality, a neighbor was injured after the impact of a stone that went through a stained glass window and had to be treated by SAME personnel. In addition, six members of the Buenos Aires Police suffered injuries during the clashes.
After the incidents, the Buenos Aires Police arrested 22 personas who, according to official information, were trying to leave the place after the destruction.
